Are you passionate about social justice? Are you looking to make a difference in your local community and effect real change on a national level when it comes to tackling the epidemic of Domestic Abuse? Are you good with numbers, well organised and confident in communicating with third parties?

Then we have the role for you!

Chester Women’s Aid are currently seeking an organised, detail oriented person to join their Committee in the role of Treasurer on a voluntary basis as soon as possible.

The role does not require any prior expertise in Accounting/Finance/Treasury as full training will be provided by the outgoing Treasurer, but an interest in the field and confidence in Microsoft Excel, money handling and online banking would all be highly beneficial.

About Chester Women’s Aid

Founded in 1976, Chester Women’s Aid is a registered charity coordinated and run completely by volunteers, made up of an elected Committee of 12 individuals including a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer, as well as a wider community of Members and Volunteers who aid in our events throughout the year.

During its earlier years, the charity mainly focused on fundraising in order to provide emergency cash grants to any person fleeing Domestic Abuse in the Chester & Cheshire area.

However, over the last 3 years under the dedicated leadership of Chairperson Fiona Neame, Chester Women’s Aid has seen a phased re-branding and modernisation, attracting a larger number and wider selection of Committee Members and Volunteers, as well as followers and supporters.

Now, alongside continuing the important work of fundraising to deliver emergency support, Chester Women’s Aid is focused on the larger task of raising awareness and educating people of all levels from school children to National Government on the issues of Domestic Abuse, as well as delivering training packages for businesses and schools across Chester.

Being a part of Chester Women’s Aid in 2020 is fun, supportive and open to everybody, as well as being incredibly fulfilling. Don’t wait- join us today!

About The Role

The role of Treasurer is responsible for:

Everyday:

· Reviewing and making decisions on whether to approve or decline grant requests

· Liaising with third parties to enable decision making on and delivery of grants

· The payment of grant applications by cash, cheque or bank transfer (and associated admin)

· Recording all grant payments made and other monies in/out on the master Excel file

· Tracking and recording all money in/out of the charity account whether it be donations, grants or business fees

Monthly:

· As Treasurer you will be an elected Committee Member, and therefore there is the expectation that you will attend the monthly Committee Meeting where you will update the rest of the Committee on all financial matters arising in the previous month

· Being an elected Member of a Board of Trustees has certain legal obligations set out by the Charity Commission, but these will be fully explained and are not onerous in a small charity like CWA that owns no assets.

Occasional:

· Handling all money related matters associated with Events – ie- cash bucket collection, counting, recording and depositing and paying deposits

· Considering, reviewing and applying for Charity Grants – ie- National Lottery

NB: Chester Women’s Aid always remembers that its Board of Trustees are volunteers and that other members of the Committee will be ready to help out when holidays, work or family commitments have to take priority.

About You

· Open minded and welcoming – CWA conduct a lot of public events and therefore it is likely you will come into contact with a variety of people

· Passionate about tackling the issue of Domestic Abuse on a local and national level

· In a personal position to take on this full role on a voluntary basis

· Organised and confident in the use of IT in general, specifically Microsoft Excel, Online Banking, Gmail & Zoom

· A background in Accounting/Finance/Treasury would be very welcome but is not essential
