Would you like to chat with a purpose? Do you like talking on the phone? If so, 'Let's Talk' will be the ideal volunteer role for you. This is a telephone befriending service for visually impaired people who wish to remain independent but would like someone to keep in contact with. You will be a social contact speaking to service users on a regular basis. The role is very flexible, as are the times when you phone, the times will suit you and the service user. You can be paired with just one or several service users, depending on your availability. You can phone from home or travel in to the Chester office of Vision Support and use their services. You will get a great deal of satisfaction from the role and also gain listening, talking and conversational skills. Ideal for someone who would like to volunteer from home. You would need access to a land line phone (not a mobile), need to produce itemised bills for expenses or have an unlimited usage phone bill system.
You need to be happy chatting on the telephone, able to build up a friendly relationship with the person you are paired with, have good communication skills, a clear speaking voice.  You need to be able to listen sensitively and be very reliable and good at keeping in touch in a regular, dependable way.
Volunteering from home or resource centre dependent on area. You must be over 18 for this role.
