Chester Terrapins is a swimming club for people with disabilities ranging from: a variety of physical disability to partially sighted; learning disabled to autistic spectrum disordered. All ages are catered for. Volunteers are need to work 1:1 with physically supporting swimmers in the pool and/or swimming alongside those who are more able, but also for interacting with individuals in order to aid their confidence.
No formal qualifications are required and volunteers are not expected to teach people to swim. Just reliability, an aspiration to recognise that disability comes in many shapes and sizes and a caring nature are all that matters.
