To manage the wildlife friendly garden and vegetable patches.
Volunteers are essential to the success of Room to Grow. Our volunteers help us grow tomatoes and pumpkins in the polytunnel, strawberries, sweetcorn, leeks, potatoes, peas and carrots outside. Our weekly volunteer group meet every Thursday to help us maintain the garden. We weed, plant fruit and vegetables, compost, and come up with new ideas to make the garden as wildlife friendly as possible.
The group takes place every Thursday from 9am until 3pm at Bickley hall farm in Malpas. You will receive all of the necessary instruction on the day by the group facilitator Phil. No commitment is required, you means that you can attend for as long as you wish.
Room to Grow is our community gardening project engaging volunteers to grow organic vegetables. In turn this educates and inspires children about wildlife friendly farming, growing and to find out more about where their food comes from. Children explore the garden, pick their own fruit and vegetables and are supported in preparing and cooking dishes. Groups have created dishes such as rhubarb crumble, leek and potato soup, and marghertia pizza.
With so few children today appreciating where real food comes from, there has never been a more important time to get them outside in the garden. Taking part in our food and farming sessions at Bickley Hall Farm is something that couldn't happen without our volunteers.
