We are a small local charity dedicated to providing services for the benefit of socially isolated older people living in West Cheshire. Breaktime is our free respite service for unpaid carers.
The volunteer will visit at agreed times to allow the carer to have some respite. This may be a weekly event or less frequently, depending on the carers needs.
Before the service commences the volunteer will be introduced to the carer and older person in their home. It is hoped that a partnership will be formed between the volunteer and the older person and an agreement reached and recorded about the nature of the support given.
Offering companionship and friendship
Conversing and sharing common interests maybe over a cup of tea
Taking part in leisure activities - playing cards, board games, crosswords
Reading to older person
Visiting local café or garden centre
It may be agreed between all parties that the volunteer will assist the carer in taking the older person for a hospital /GP /clinic visit if that is something which would best help the carer .
The role is not to be considered as a care worker and volunteers will not be providing physical or personal care to the older person.
Volunteers will not:
Assist with toileting
Training and support is available.
