We are looking for committed and passionate volunteers to work alongside our charity in supporting young carers. Our Charity, Cheshire Young Carers, offers respite in the form of fortnightly sessions and school holiday activities. This respite is offered to young people aged 6-18 who look after someone else within the home suffering with a physical or mental disability. Volunteers make our work possible. They offer safe and comfortable environments of fun and communication as well as being a positive role model.
This role will offer the experience of working closely alongside young people, building on communication and leadership skills as well as behaviour management. The session support volunteer will arrive half an hour before the start of a session to assist the session lead in setting up activities, preparing refreshments and to be briefed on any safeguarding or wellbeing issues with any of the young carers from the group. The session support will be briefed via email prior to the session as to the theme and activity plan for the evening. This role includes being present and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the young carers present. It also includes ensuring all the young carers are accounted for and each young person feels included within the activities at hand. Alongside this, the role may require this person to lead activities planned by the activity coordinator at Cheshire Young Carers. Any safeguarding or wellbeing issues can be reported to the session leader who will be aware of the procedure to follow. As well as extensive training, our volunteering opportunities include bi-annual lunches which aim to include volunteers in the future direction of the charity, listen to feedback from volunteers and celebrate the contribution made to the young people we support.
Experience with young people is desirable. A warm personality with approachable qualities. We aim to allow volunteers to bring their hobbies and skills to sessions and run activities with these in mind.
