"Love2meetU" is a friendship agency for people with learning disabilities. We aim to recruit members who will be given support to develop and maintain friendships and relationships. Regular events and accessing leisure opportunities will be used to help people make relationships and offer appropriate support in communication and transport.
This is an opportunity to join a friendly team in the initial stages of developing this exciting project. We require a volunteer to support our members, organise activities and events as well as offering support as required. Events are likely to be bowling, cinema, discos, days and meals out, this will be determined by our members. Some members will need support for only one or two meetings and others may want it in the long term as they develop in confidence.
As well as having a lot of fun this role will give you experience in working as part of a team, respecting confidentiality, risk assessment and developing your communication skills.
Volunteers need good communication skills, able to work autonomously. Be friendly and patient personality and have the
ability to work as part of a team. Volunteers need to be over 18.
Induction training covers information about learning disabilities, current legislation, confidentiality, health and safety and communication skills. Most of the work will be carried out in community venues which have different accessibility standards. If the project manager is made aware of any accessibility needs the volunteers work can be better matched to the venue. On-going supervision will be by the "love2meetU" project manager.
