Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service have restored several fire appliances back to their original condition, the oldest goes as far back as the steam age. The Heritage team look after these original vehicles both restore and maintain in order to bring them back to their former glory and then proudly transport and display them at various rallies across Britain and Europe.
Volunteers help maintain historic fire engines which are part of the collection of historic vehicles owned by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service. Vehicles are stored in a number of Fire Stations around the area and a team of volunteers help prepare them for exhibition at community events and shows eg Cheshire Show. Vehicles have to be transported to events and shown to the public at events. Volunteers will work as part of a team or alone, you will be working with the public if you go to events or preparing the vehicles before the events. Driving licence would be useful. Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and up keep would also be useful in this role.

A variety of skills would be useful in this volunteer role. You can have some or all of the skills such as communication skills, driving licence, vehicle maintenance knowledge. Practical skills are needed and a willingness to muck in at events. Volunteers will be helping to keep vehicles in tiptop condition. A love of historic vehicles would be an advantage. HGV licence would be useful, but not essential.
