Making space is a Health and social Care Organisation and registered charity supporting people who suffer mental health conditions, learning disabilities or dementia. We also provide elderly persons care. A volunteer Cooking Befriender is wanted to provide befriending and support to an individual to encourage them to learn new skills and support them with planning menus, shopping and budgeting. The help they receive will make a massive difference to their lives. Full training is given. The befriender will help someone learn new cooking skills, support them planning menus, going shopping and budgeting. They will also give feedback to the team how they are doing and undertake any training relevant to the role. This is a great opportunity to anyone considering a career in the care sector, food nutrition, social services or support work. Volunteers will gain experience of working with a client one-to-one, forming an effective relationship with a goal in mind, supporting a Clients needs and reporting back to a team.
Basic cooking skills, experience of food shopping and budgeting skills are a must for this role. Volunteers also need relevant skills to assist a vulnerable adults. Good communication skills and able to form effective relationships. You will need computer skills to keep records. Knowledge of Food Hygiene or Food Hygiene certificate would be very useful in this role. Volunteers need to be non-judgemental, have patience, reliable, enthusiastic, positive and flexible.
Volunteers will need to fill in an application form and References and a DBS check will be required. An Informal Interview and training will be given and there will be help with travel expenses.
