Volunteer Befrienders offer social contact to people with dementia or carers of people with dementia. You will provide companionship either in their home or in their local community and help the person to take part in appropriate social and/or recreational activities. Your involvement aims to help people to feel less isolated and feel part of an enjoyable social relationship.
No special qualifications or experience needed. The role may be ideal for you if ;
You know about , or are willing to learn about, dementia and its impact on people .
You have good verbal communication skills, especially face to face.
You can show empathy, patience, consideration and a caring nature.
You are happy to volunteer in isolation, yet understand you are part of a team.
You recognise the importance of confidentially, and can show this is in practice.
You are committed to inclusion, treating people from all backgrounds with dignity.
You are comfortable in attending future support meetings.
