Description

There are a large number of people in Cheshire West who have served this country or are military connected. Many of those ex-service personnel find themselves isolated and disconnect from civilian life as they are not used to living with the choices and responsibilities that come with day to day living,. As a result, many have turned to alcohol and substances to cope and or suffer wih mental issues as they struggle to integrate into society as a civilian.

Live at Ease support these individuals by providing Volunteer Peer and Non-Peer mentors who support the transition working 1:1 with client (in a public space) to develop coping strategies to deal with their situation. Full training will be provided and support in signposting to services will be on hand at all times. This service is non-clinical and is very much a support positiion which is about being a role model.
This opportunity is ideal for someone who is looking to work on a strong relationship making a difference directly to someone's life. If you are looking to volunteer for progression this is a great opportunity for someone looking for advocacy, care or working in addiction or metal health. Volunteer mentors choose their days and hours Monday to Friday and ideally they are able to commit for approximately 12 month period. (eg the help you will be giving will need to be ongoing, requiring a reasonable commitment of your time over a period that will make a difference to the recipient.).

Approachable, confident and able to converse with people from various backgrounds. An understanding of problems faced by those within the armed Forces community would be an advantage. Strong character to stay on track with a message and focus on the task at hand for the individual. Knowledge of local organisations, services and resources would be helpful in this role. The ability to make connections and signpost to appropriate organisations and services. An empathy for the situation of the client and lots of patience to deal with the ever changing situation. Linked to local ex service personnel.

Only registered members can apply for opportunities.
